How Long Does it Take to Pack a House?

Moving can be a stressful experience, and packing up your belongings is one of the most time-consuming tasks. On average, it takes approximately 3 to 5 days to pack a three-bedroom house. This is not 1 to 2 hours per night of packing, but rather 3 to 5 hours of dedicated packing. The amount of time it takes to pack your house depends on the size of the move, the help available with packing, and the speed of packing.

If you need to pack your house quickly and commit to devoting every waking hour to achieve it, on average it will take you about 3 to 5 days to pack a three-bedroom house. And the more effort and care it takes to pack an item, the more time the packing task will consume. Even if you can pack your house in several days, we strongly recommend that you don't wait until the last week before moving to start packing. If you don't want to risk postponing the unpacking process, also hire a packing service to do so.

During the on-site assessment, the inspector will let you know how you will be charged for packing services. You can have your family help you or reach out to your friends for assistance. Considering that heavily furnished rooms such as the kitchen take about twice as long to pack, you can easily calculate how long it will take to pack your house to move in: 2 days for a one-bedroom apartment, 3-4 days for a two-bedroom house, 4-5 days for a three-bedroom house, 5-6 days for a four-bedroom house, etc. Old shoe boxes or other rigid corrugated cardboard boxes that you have collected over the years of consumer goods could be useful for packing small items, knickknacks, and other fragile items. And you certainly don't want to find out after the move, when some of your most valuable belongings were damaged, because you didn't pack them properly.
